MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Tobias Myers is going back to the minors as he continues to struggle to match the success he enjoyed as a rookie last year. The Brewers optioned Myers to Triple-A Nashville on Sunday while selecting right-handed pitcher Easton McGee from Triple-A and transferring left-handed pitcher Connor Thomas to the 60-day injured list. Myers is 1-1 with a 4.95 ERA in six appearances, including five starts. He allowed four runs over 3 2/3 innings in a7-0 lossto the Minnesota Twins on Saturday. The right-hander had gone 9-6 with a 3.00 ERA last season and was selected the Brewers' most valuable pitcher by the Milwaukee chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America. He closed that season by pitching five scoreless innings in the decisiveGame 3of the NL Wild Card Series against the New York Mets, a game theBrewers lost 4-2by allowing four runs in the ninth. "I love the kid, man," Brewers manager Pat Murphy said after Saturday's game. "You saw it in Game 3, that's in there. So we've got to get back to that." The Brewershad optioned Myersto Nashville a week ago, but he didn't actually pitch there before rejoining the big-league club after left-hander José Quintana went on the injured list with a left shoulder issue. Now he's heading back to Nashville. Myers entered Saturday having walked 10 batters over 16 1/3 innings. He didn't walk anyone Saturday, but gave up a career-high 11 hits. "My goal was to fill the zone up and kind of get away from the walks I've been dealing with," Myers said after the game. "I think I just filled it up a little too much." McGee went 1-0 with a 3.44 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 18 1/3 innings in 13 relief appearances with Nashville. McGee appeared in one game for Tampa Bay in 2022 and one game for Seattle in 2023. In the only two games he has pitched in the big leagues, McGee has allowed just one unearned run over 9 2/3 innings while striking out three and allowing five hits and one walk. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/MLB

Twins reliever Danny Coulombe taking his 0.00 ERA to the 15-day injured listNew Foto - Twins reliever Danny Coulombe taking his 0.00 ERA to the 15-day injured list

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Minnesota Twins left-handed reliever Danny Coulombe, who hasn't allowed a run all season, has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm extensor strain. The move was announced Sunday but is retroactive to Thursday. In other moves, the Twins called up right-handed pitcher Zebby Matthews to start Sunday's game at Milwaukee and selected the contract of outfielder Carson McCusker from Triple-A St. Paul. Coulombe, 35, had struck out 19 batters while allowing only two walks and eight hits in 16 2/3 scoreless innings this season. He had last pitched on Wednesday. "It's obviously not good, but I'm not overly concerned," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. "Danny hasn't been available now since the last time he pitched. We've been working around him, trying to see if we could give him a little time and get him where he needs to be. He's shown good improvement, but he's not ready to pitch quite yet. He's going to need a little bit more. I'm not going to put a timeline on it. I'm not going to say it's the minimum, but I'm optimistic that it won't be too long." Coulombe becomes the third Twins player to go on the injured list during this weekend series, though Minnesota has weathered the situation well enough to carry a13-game winning streakinto Sunday's game. Shortstop Carlos Correa and center fielder Byron Buxton both went on the 7-dayconcussion injured listafterthey collidedwhile chasing a shallow fly ball Thursday in Baltimore. Matthews, who turns 25 on Thursday, has gone 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in seven starts for St. Paul this season. He pitched nine games with Minnesota last year and went 1-4 with a 6.69 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings. Matthews also was selected as the Twins' minor league pitcher of the year in 2024. McCusker, who turns 27 on Thursday, had hit .350 with a .412 on-base percentage, 10 homers and 36 RBIs in 38 games with St. Paul. The Twins made room for McCusker on their 40-man roster by transferring outfielder Luke Keaschall to the 60-day injured list as he recovers from a fractured right forearm. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/MLB

BALTIMORE (AP) — Pitcher Kyle Gibson was designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday with an 0-3 record and a 16.78 ERA in four starts after signing a$5.25 million, one-year contracton March 22. A day afterfiring manager Brandon Hyde, the Orioles also placed outfielder Tyler O'Neill on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder impingement. Gibson allowed six runs and got just two outs in a10-6 loss to Washington on Saturday, the first game after Tony Mansolino was promoted from third base coach to interim manager. The defeat dropped the Orioles to 15-29. A 37-year-old right-hander who was an All-Star in 2021, Gibson is 112-111 with a 4.60 ERA in 328 starts and six relief appearances over 13 seasons with Minnesota (2013-19), Texas (2020-21), Philadelphia (2021-22), the Orioles (2023, '25) and St. Louis (2024). A two-time Gold Gove winner, O'Neill is hitting .188 with two homers, 10 RBIs and a .605 OPS in his first season since signing a$49.5 million, three-year contract. Mansolino said Sunday he was "trying to get up to speed" in his promotion from third-base coach. He declined to speculate why general manager Mike Elias appointed him as Hyde's short-term successor. "That's probably a better question for him," Mansolino said. "I'm not sure. I've been here for five years, I feel like I've probably built some equity in the building through my time here. I'm sure that had a little something to do with it." Elias has not spoken with reporters, addressing the decision only in a statement. "As the head of baseball operations, the poor start to our season is ultimately my responsibility," he said. "Part of that responsibility is pursuing difficult changes in order to set a different course for the future." Baltimore recalled outfielder Dylan Carlson and right-hander Kade Strowd from Triple-A Norfolk. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/mlb

Dodgers designate veteran utilityman Chris Taylor for assignmentNew Foto - Dodgers designate veteran utilityman Chris Taylor for assignment

Chris Tayloris getting squeezed out in theLos Angeles Dodgers' roster crunch. The 12-year veteran has been designated for assignment, according to reports. The move creates room on the Dodgers' active roster forTommy Edman, who will apparently be activated forSunday's gameversus theLos Angeles Angels. Edman, who has eight home runs and an .818 OPS this season, has been on the injured list since April 30 with an ankle injury. Moving Taylor off the roster also allows the Dodgers to avoid sendingHyeseong Kimback to the minors, rather than let him develop while playing major league games. Kim isn't starting regularly but in 14 appearances, he's compiled a .452/.485/.581 slash average with a home run, 5 RBI and 3 stolen bases. Taylor isstill owed $12.75 millionto finish outthe four-year, $60 million dealhe signed with the Dodgers before the 2022 season. The team has one week to either trade Taylor or put him on waivers. If he clears waivers, Taylor could return to the Dodgers and report to the minors. But it's likely he'll opt for free agency. This story will be updated.

Alvarado, whose suspension without pay takes effect immediately, leads the Phillies in saves (seven) and holds (five), though Jordan Romano also has seen time in the closer role. The left-hander, who turns 30 on Wednesday, is 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 20 appearances this season. He has 25 strikeouts versus four walks over 20 innings.
