NBA fines Jalen Williams $25,000 for wearing clothing with profane language after Game 7 win over NuggetsNew Foto - NBA fines Jalen Williams $25,000 for wearing clothing with profane language after Game 7 win over Nuggets

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams was hit with a $25,000 fine on Monday over profane language. Williams, however, didn't say anything bad in the wake ofthe team's Game 7 win over the Denver Nuggets. Instead, the fine was issued for Williams' choice of clothing. Williams, after theThunder's series-clinching 125-93 win, wore a T-shirt with profanity on it when he met with reporters at the Paycom Center. The shirt in question had the phrase, "F**k art, let's dance" written in red letters across the chest. Williams' shirt read: "F**K ART, LET'S DANCE"https://t.co/CtsVTIBKhEpic.twitter.com/KxmTmF9roF — Brett Siegel (@BrettSiegelNBA)May 19, 2025 So even though Williams didn't use the profanity — which almost always earns such a fine from the league — it's clear the NBA's front office is considering this as the same type of offense. So, it assessed the fine. TheThunder cruised to the 32-point blowout winwithout much issue Sunday, which ended their series against the Nuggets and secured their first trip to the Western Conference finals since 2016. Williams had 24 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds in that win. Williams, 24, averaged 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game this season, all of which are career-highs. He has one year left on his initial four-year, $20.2 million rookie deal. The Thunder will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference finals starting with Game 1 on Tuesday night in Oklahoma City. TheThunder opened as big -375 favoritesto win the series on BetMGM, which made thembiggest favorites in the conference finals in franchise history. The Thunder were underdogs in their last four conference finals appearances. The closest they came was in 1996, when the then-Seattle SuperSonics were -270 favorites against the Utah Jazz.

Gene Lamont is back in a Pittsburgh Pirates uniform 25 years after being fired as their managerNew Foto - Gene Lamont is back in a Pittsburgh Pirates uniform 25 years after being fired as their manager

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Gene Lamont hadn't been in uniform since 2017, his last year as the Detroit Tigers' bench coach. And it had been 25 years since he managed the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now 78, Lamont wasn't necessarily looking to return to a big league dugout. But he couldn't resist when Pittsburgh manager Don Kelly called last week andasked him to join the Pirates' coaching staff. Lamont's first game back was Monday night when the Pirates hosted the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a three-game series. Lamont returns to the Pirates for the first time since they fired him as manager at the end of the 2000 season following a four-year stint. He also managed the Chicago White Sox from 1992-95. Kelly was a utility player for the Tigers when Lamont was on their coaching staff. Lamont's title with the Pirates is special consultant. However, he will primarily serve as the de facto bench coach. When Derek Shelton was fired May 8, Kelly was promoted from bench coach to manager. Kelly had never managed at any level. "It's more just being with Donnie," Lamont said of his role. "Maybe there are some decisions during the game that he'll wonder about. Do I have all the answers? I have the answers, but they're not always right. I'll give Donnie my opinion and hopefully it'll help." The Pirates entered Monday with a 15-32 record and in last place in the NL Central. They trailed the division-leading Chicago Cubs by 13 games. "I think we're a much better team than we've played," Lamont said. "I think the players know that. But you have to do it on the field. You've got to make pitches, and everybody knows we've got to hit a little better. I think that we will. Sometimes it takes time." Kelly is happy to have Lamont as a resource. The Pirates are 3-6 since switching managers. "Just a phenomenal baseball guy," Kelly said. "Taught me a lot as a player and looking forward to having him around, teaching the staff and the players what he knows." ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Shedeur Sanders signs 4-year, $4.6M contract with BrownsNew Foto - Shedeur Sanders signs 4-year, $4.6M contract with Browns

It's official. Shedeur Sanders is a Cleveland Brown. The fifth-round quarterback signed his rookie contract on Monday that's valued at four years and $4.6 million. TheBrowns announced the signing on Monday. There's little room for negotiation for Sanders or any other rookie in the NFL. Per the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, rookie contracts are fixed on a scale based on where players are selected. Sanders' slot as the 144th pick in the fifth round dictates his four-year, $4.6 million contract. Per Spotrac, the contract comes with a $446,553 signing bonus that's also dictated by Sanders' draft slot. Signing the deal ensures that Sanders will compete for a roster spot and potentially a starting position on a Browns teams with several quarterbacks on the depth chart, but no clear No. 1. Sanders was initially projected by many as a first-round pick out of Colorado before pre-draft reports and evaluations indicated that he would not be selected that high. But his fall to the fifth round was stunning, nonetheless. His total $4.6 million rookie contract is less than his reported name, image and likeness valuation while at Colorado, according to on3. That honor belongs to former Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel, whom the Browns selected in the third round. Gabriel has yet to sign his rookie contract. Sanders is the fourth of seven Browns rookies to sign their contracts, joining second-round pick Carson Schwesinger (LB), third-round pick Harold Fannin Jr. (TE) and fourth-round pick Dylan Sampson (RB). Like Gabriel, first-round pick Mason Graham (DT) and second-round pick Quinshon Judkins (RB) have yet to sign. Sanders is one of five quarterbacks on Cleveland's roster in addition to Gabriel. The Browns also have veterans Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett on the roster. For various reasons including injury, age and performance, neither of the veterans are ensured a spot atop the depth chart. Watson, whose controversial tenure with Cleveland had already tanked due to poor performance, isn't expected to be available due toa second rupture of his right Achilles tendon. So there's opportunity in Cleveland for Sanders and each of Cleveland's quarterbacks not named Watson. And now Sanders has an NFL paycheck as he seeks to carve out his role in the league and a spot on Cleveland's roster.
