49ers, All-Pro Fred Warner reportedly agreed to 3-year, $63M contract, making him highest-paid NFL LBNew Foto - 49ers, All-Pro Fred Warner reportedly agreed to 3-year, $63M contract, making him highest-paid NFL LB

The San Francisco 49ers and four-time All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner have agreed to a three-year, $63 million contract extension,ESPN reports. Per the report, the extension comes with $56 million in guaranteed money and will make Warner the highest-paid off-ball linebacker in the NFL with a $21 million average annual salary. Warner previously played on a five-year, $92 million extension to his rookie contract that also made him the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL when he signed it. Warner's extension is the second high-profile deal in recent days for the 49ers, whoagreed to a five-year, $265 million extensionwith quarterback Brock Purdy last week. Purdy previously played on an enormous discount via the four-year, $3.73 million rookie contract he signed as the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. With Purdy now playing on one of the richest contracts in the NFL, San Francisco's salary cap calculus is significantly altered and has forced the 49ers to make some difficult roster decisions this offseason. Those decisions included allowing key veteran defenders Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufangawalk in free agency to the Denver Broncos. San Francisco alsotraded wide receiver Deebo Samuelto the Washington Commanders. But the 49ers have prioritized retaining Warner and awarded him with a lucrative new contract that extends through the 2029 season. Warner, 28, has played his entire seven-season NFL career with the 49ers. He's been named first-team All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl on four different occasions, including each of the previous three seasons. Warner's tallied at least 118 tackles in each season of his career. He has 10 career sacks, 36 tackles for loss, 15 forced fumbles, 10 interceptions and 6 fumble recoveries as one of the most impactful off-ball linebackers in football. Warner's also one of the most durable players in the league, having played in at least 16 games in each of his seven NFL seasons. Warner will sign his extension as the 49ers seek to return to contention with their retooled roster. The 49ers made the playoffs in four out of five seasons from 2019 to 2023, a span that included four trips to the NFC championship game and two trips to the Super Bowl. But the 49ers struggled to a 6-11 campaign in 2024 that resulted in a last-place finish in the NFC West. With Purdy, Warner, Nick Bosa and Christian McCaffrey headlining San Francisco's roster, the 49ers signal that they intend to compete again next season and beyond.

Warner and the49ersagreed to a three-year, $63 million contract extension including $56 million guaranteed, a source confirmed to USA TODAY Sports' Tyler Dragon. ESPN Sources: Four-time All-Pro LB Fred Warner and the 49ers reached agreement on a three-year, $63 million contract extension that includes over $56 million in guaranteed money that makes him the NFL's highest-paid linebacker. It marks the second time in his seven-year NFL…pic.twitter.com/L4GHK7h4Vy — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter)May 19, 2025 This is the second extension Warner's signed since the 49ers drafted him in the third round, No. 70 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft out of BYU. He's only missed one regular season game in seven years in the league and was a starter immediately. Warner was a first-team All-Pro in 2020, the same year he made his first Pro Bowl. He's made both in each of the last three seasons as one of the best linebackers in the NFL. Warner had two years left on the extension he'd signed prior to the 2021 season. That deal made him the highest-paid linebacker in the league and this new extension does so again. Warner joinstight end George Kittleandquarterback Brock Purdyamong 49ers players who signed multi-year extensions this offseason. Kittle became the highest-paid tight end in the league with his deal. The 2025 season marks Warner's age-29 campaign and his eighth in the NFL. San Francisco's defense could look much different this fall after losing players in free agency and bringing in new talent via the NFL Draft. Longtime coordinator Robert Saleh is back in the building as well. Since Warner entered the league in 2018, only three players have tallied more tackles than him: Bobby Wagner, Roquan Smith and Foyesade Oluokun. Here's how his stats have looked every season: 2018 (16 games):124 tackles, three tackles for loss, six passes defensed, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery 2019 (16 games):118 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, one interception, nine passes defensed, three forced fumbles 2020 (16 games):125 tackles, five tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks, two interceptions, six passes defensed, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries 2021 (16 games):137 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, four passes defensed, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries 2022 (17 games):130 tackles, three tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, one interception, 10 passes defensed, one forced fumble 2023 (17 games):132 tackles, six tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, four interceptions, 11 passes defensed, four forced fumbles 2024 (17 games):131 tackles, five tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks, two interceptions, seven passes defensed, four forced fumbles This article originally appeared on USA TODAY:49ers make Fred Warner the NFL's highest-paid LB with new extension
