BERLIN (AP) —Norwegian chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsenwas forced into a draw Monday by more than 143,000 people worldwide playing against him in a single, record-setting game. Billed as "Magnus Carlsen vs. The World,"the online match began April 4 on Chess.com, the world's largest chess website, and was the first-ever online freestyle game to feature a world champion. The mega-match ended after Team World checked Carlsen's king a third time, a stunning outcome after Chess.com had predicted Carlsen would win by a wide margin. This was the third "vs. The World" record-setting online game. In 1999,Russian grandmaster Garry Kasparovplayed against more than 50,000 people on the Microsoft Network and won after four months. Last year, Indian grandmaster Viswanathan Anand won his "vs. The World" match against nearly 70,000 players on Chess.com. 'Very, very sound chess' Carlsen,34, became the world's top-ranked player in 2010 aged 19 and has won five World Championships. He achieved the highest-ever chess rating of 2882 in 2014 and has remained the undisputed world number one formore than a decade. "Overall, 'the world' has played very, very sound chess from the start. Maybe not going for most enterprising options, but kind of keeping it more in vein with normal chess — which isn't always the best strategy, but it worked out well this time," Carlsen said in a statement Friday as Monday's draw seemed imminent. Because it was a freestyle match, the bishops, knights, rooks, queen and king were randomly shuffled around the board while the pawns remained in their usual spots. Freestyle chess is popular because it allows players to be more creative and avoid memorization. 'We made history' Team World voted on each move and each side had 24 hours to make their play. Carlsen played the white pieces. The world won on move 32 after checking Carlsen's king three times in the corner of the board where it could not escape. The rule is called "threefold repetition," meaning all of the pieces on the board are in the exact same position three times to prompt a draw. In the Chess.com virtual chat, players appeared split on whether to force the draw — and claim the glory — or to keep playing against Carlsen, even if it ultimately meant a loss. "Don't Draw! Let's keep playing Magnus," one user wrote. "This is an opportunity that won't come along again. I'd rather play the Master all the way to the end and see if we can battle it out another 20 or 30 moves! Let's have some FUN!!!" Another added: "Thanks Magnus for such a great game. We made history."

ESPN's Ryan Clark evokes RG3's marriage after ex-NFL star weighs in on Caitlin Clark, Angel ReeseNew Foto - ESPN's Ryan Clark evokes RG3's marriage after ex-NFL star weighs in on Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese

Robert Griffin III was among those who chimed in on the latest saga in the rivalry between basketball stars Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark, saying the Chicago Sky star "hates Caitlin Clark." "After watching Caitlin Clark's flagrant foul on Angel Reese and the aftermath, there is no way Angel Reese can continue the lie that she doesn't dislike Caitlin Clark,"Griffin wrote on X. "I know what hatred looks like. Angel Reese HATES Caitlin Clark. Not some basketball rivalry hate either. Hate." Griffin later claimed his statement was "purely based in basketball" and was simply a "sports take." Click Here For More Sports Coverage On Foxnews.com Tempers flaredbetween Reese and Clark after the Fever guard committed a flagrant foul on the Sky forward. It was one of the bigger moments of Indiana's 93-58 blowout win on Saturday. Current ESPN NFL analyst and former Pittsburgh Steelers star Ryan Clark reacted to Griffin's comments on the Reese-Clark drama. Clark suggested Griffin was joining the "hate train" and was falling in line with the positions other media figures have taken. Read On The Fox News App "When RG3 jumps onto the hate train or the angry train, it now follows what we saw from Keith Olbermann, what we saw from Dave Portnoy, as they poured onto Angel Reese to make her the villain, and Caitlin Clark heroic or hero story,"Clark saidduring a recent episode of his "The Pivot" podcast. "The one thing we know about RG3 is he's not having conversations at his home about what Black women have to endure in this country. About what young Black women and athletes like Angel Reese have had to deal with being on the opposite side of Caitlin Clark's rise and ascension into stardom." Caitlin Clark Speaks Out On Wnba's Probe Into Alleged 'Hateful Comments' Toward Angel Reese Clark then highlighted the formerNFL quarterback'smarriage. "If you're RG3, when is the last time within your household you've had a conversation about what [Angel Reese is] dealing with?" Clark asked. "You haven't been able to do that because in both of your marriages, you've been married to White women." Griffin is married to Grete Griffin, who is a native of Estonia and a heptathlete. "You haven't had opportunities to have those conversations to educate you on what they're feeling, what Black women deal with, what they're seeing when they think of a young Angel Reese. And the whole time that he's mimicking Angel Reese and bobbing his head and moving his neck while he's doing this whole piece, his wife is in the back amening and clapping." Griffin left ESPN in 2024. Multiple outlets reported at the time that Griffin's dismissal was a cost-cutting move. "When I worked with RG3, he would make all of these sort of corny jokes about milk and how much he loved it and how important it was. And he always points out on social media the color of his wife's white skin. As if the color of her skin is what makes her special. As if the color of her skin is what makes her a good wife," Clark continued. "I've met the lady. I've had a conversation with her. I think she's more than that. But it also leads to what Black women deal with a lot from Black men who have chose to date or marry outside of their race. They always feel like they have to go the extra mile to prop up the woman that they married or the woman that they're with over Black women by denigrating Black women." Griffin caught wind of Clark's comments and took to social media to share his response. "Ryan Clark personally attacking me and my family personally over a sports opinion is cowardly, spineless, and weak," Griffinwrote on X, along with a more than two-minute-long video. Griffin also stated several times that Clark's assertions were "way out of bounds." Caitlin Clark and Reese have major history, going back to the 2023 NCAA women's basketball national championship. Both players downplayed the incident. Clark told ESPN's Holly Rowe after the third quarter that there had been "nothing malicious" behind the foul. Fox News' Ryan Gaydos contributed to this report. BOSTON (AP) — Jarren Duran had a double and a triple as the Boston Red Sox tagged Mets ace Kodai Senga for three runs — the most he has given up all season — and beat New York 3-1 on Monday night. Senga (4-3) fell behind 3-0 after two innings before settling down and retiring the last seven batters he faced. He allowed five hits and three walks in all while striking out five. Red Sox starter Hunter Dobbins held the Mets to one run on five hits, allowing back-to-back singles before he struck Tyrone Taylor out on a called third strike for the second out in the fifth. Justin Wilson (2-0) fanned Francisco Lindor to end the threat. Aroldis Chapman pitched the ninth for his seventh save. Duran led off the bottom of the first with a double, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Alex Bregman's groundout. Trevor Story singled in another run to make it 2-0. Boston made it 3-0 in the second on Duran's RBI triple, his sixth of the season. The Mets' only run came on Taylor's RBI single in the third. Key Moment Pete Alonso hit a line drive high off the Green Monster and slid into second in the first inning for what was initially ruled a double but was overturned on video review for the third out. That made substitute Red Sox manager Ramon Vazquez, who was in charge because Alex Cora was attending his daughter's graduation from Boston College, 1 for 1 on replay challenges. Key Stat Senga allowed more than two earned runs for the first time in 17 starts — surpassing Dwight Gooden's franchise record of 15 straight starts in 1985-86. New Twins OF Carson McCusker accidentally launches bat into left field during rainy matchup with GuardiansNew Foto - New Twins OF Carson McCusker accidentally launches bat into left field during rainy matchup with Guardians

The rain got the best of Carson McCusker on Monday night. McCusker stepped up to the plate in the second inning of the Minnesota Twins' matchup with the Cleveland Guardians as decent rain was falling at Target Field in Minneapolis. But when the right fielder went to swing at a pitch, well, McCusker completely lost control of the bat. It wasn't just a little bit, either. McCusker sent his bat absolutelyflying. The bat made it all the way into left field, where it calmly came to rest as everyone slowly realized what had happened. As Guardians players went to retrieve it, McCusker and the home plate umpire just stood there laughing. Carson McCusker nearly hit a home run with the bat… literally.#MNTwinspic.twitter.com/rPDzpVMvAb — Talkin' Twins (@TalkinTwins)May 20, 2025 Whoops. To make the situation even better, McCusker had just been called up to the Twins from their Triple-A affiliate on Saturday. Monday was just his second game in the big leagues. But, to McCusker's credit, that very likely would've been a single had he actually made contact with the ball instead of trying to cut corners with his bat. Eventually, McCusker struck out looking. The game was tied 1-1 at the time, but Willi Castro hit an RBI double later in the inning to put the Twins up by a run. By the end of the third inning, however, officials decided they had had enough and sent the game into a rain delay. The game was called off for the day and will resume on Tuesday at 5:10 p.m. CT, with Game 2 of the series to follow. The Twins entered Monday's contest with a 26-21 record. They have won 13 of their last 14, too, after their impressive win streak came to an end on Sunday when the Milwaukee Brewers beat them, 5-2. The Guardians, on the other hand, came into Monday's game on a four-game losing skid. While McCusker is hoping to get the hang of things with his new club, Monday's bat incident was an incredible way for him to kick off his time with the Twins.
