Jalen Hurts Doubles Down on Skipping Eagles' White House Visit with Donald Trump: 'I Wasn't Available'

The star quarterback, 26, was noticeably absent when the Philadelphia Eagles visited the White House on April 28 to celebrate their 2025Super Bowlwin with PresidentDonald Trump, along withat least a dozen other Eagles players. Speakingto reporters on Tuesday, May 20, Hurts doubled down on the reason for his absence. "I wasn't available," the Super Bowl MVP said. "I don't think that's pertinent. Everyone who went, and was available, they seemed to enjoy themselves." Leading up to the visit,reports surfacedthat the quarterback would not participate due to "scheduling conflicts." He was asked about whether or not he'd attend on the TIME100 Gala red carpet on April 24, andgave a smile as he declined to answer the question. In addition to Hurts, the players who did not attend were A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Brandon Graham, Nolan Smith, Zack Baun, Nakobe Dean, CJ Gardner Johnson, Darius Slay and Quinyon Mitchell. During his speech, President Trump praised the team, especially running backSaquon Barkley— who defended himself just before the visitagainst backlash as he went for a golf outingwith Trump — and took a jab atTaylor Swiftover the Chiefs' loss in the 2025 Super Bowl. Calling the Super Bowl results "a little surprising" during his speech, Trump mentioned Chiefs fan Swift after saying he "was there, I watched in person," at the game in New Orleans on Feb. 9. "I was there along with Taylor Swift," Trump said at the Eagles visit. "How did that work out?" he asked, to laughs from the crowd, before repeating the question: "How did that one work out?"
