Knicks star guard John Starks, after scoring, was trash-talking towards Reggie Miller. The trash-talk culminated with Starks headbutting Miller. Starks was promptly ejected from the game. In 1994, the two teams met again, this time in the Eastern Conference finals. The Knicks were looking to take a commanding 3-2 lead in Game 5 and were up 70-58 in the third quarter. However, Miller dominated the fourth quarter, wheres he scored 25 of his 39 points. Throughout the fourth quarter, Miller was going back and forth with Knicks superfan Spike Lee. Miller taunted Lee by making a now-infamous choke gesture. The Pacers won that Game 5 behind Millers' strong performance but lost the next two games, and the Knicks won the series in seven games and went to theNBA Finals. Miller, who had been at the heart of the rivalry, authored one of the most incredulous comebacks in NBA playoff history. The Knicks were up 105-99 with16 seconds left in the fourth quarter of Game 1 when Miller turned the game on its head by scoring eight points in nine seconds. The Pacers star drilled a 3-pointer with about 16 seconds left, then hit another 3-pointer after he stole the Knicks' inbound pass. After the Knicks missed a pair of free throws and a put-back attempt, Miller grabbed the rebound and was subsequently fouled. Miller went to the free throw line, buried two free throws, and gave the Pacers a 107-105 lead. The 1995 series, like the 1994 matchup, went the full seven games, but the Pacers prevailed this time and moved on to the Eastern Conference finals. The two teams met in the 1998 Eastern Conference semifinals, but the Pacers were heavy favorites due to Knicks' star Patrick Ewing's wrist injury. The Pacers dispatched the Knicks in five games. However, in the 1999 Eastern Conference finals, the two teams met again, and the Knicks were not as overmatched as they were the prior season. The Knicks won the series in six games, with Johnson delivering one of the most iconic shots in franchise history in Game 3. The Pacers held a 91-88 lead with six seconds left in the game when Johnson nailed a 3-pointer and was also fouled by Antonio Davis. The Pacers and Knicks played again in the Eastern Conference finals in 2000, and the Pacers outlasted the Knicks in six games, getting revenge for 1999. The next time the two teams met in the playoffs was 2013 in the Eastern Conference semifinals, with new stars involved to reignite the rivalry. The Paul George-led Pacers took down the Carmelo Anthony-led Knicks in six games. The two teams wouldn't see each other in the playoffs again until last season in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The Pacers dispatched a Knicks team that was decimated by injury in Game 7 with a historic shooting performance. The Pacers shot an astounding 67.1% from the field in that Game 7, good for an NBA playoff record, in their 130-109 victory. The Pacers hold a 5-3 series record over the Knicks in the playoffs and hold a 26-22 playoff record against the Knicks. And after 46 days competing, the contest – the largest online chess game ever held,according to Chess.com– ended in a draw after 32 moves when the public forced a threefold repetition in a queen endgame to earn a half-point for either side. "Overall, the World has played very, very sound chess," Carlsentold Chess.comas the game came to a close. "Kind of from the start, maybe not going for the most enterprising options, but keeping it in the vein of normal chess. It's not always the best strategy, but it seemed like it worked fine this time." The format meant that each side had 24 hours to make a move. After Carlsen made his opening gambit, Team World voted on what it would do next. The public was aided in its endeavor by a panel of five coaches, including WGM Dina Belenkaya, NM Dane Mattson, IM David "Divis" Martinez, IM David Pruess and GM Benjamin Bok. The event shattered the records for participation in a online chess game, passing the previous record of 70,000 set for the 'Vishy vs. The World' last year. When 'Magnus vs. The World' began on April 4, 100,000 had signed up with that number rising to 143,000 over the course of the game. According to Chess.com, there were 508,000 votes cast and more than 30,000 forum comments posted over the six weeks of competition. FRISCO, Texas (AP) — By the time Dak Prescott got to his phone after the Dallas Cowboys agreed to atrade for receiver George Pickens, the star quarterback said he had about six missed calls from owner Jerry Jones' assistant. "Literally no idea what it could've been about and actually had a voicemail from Jerry, 'Hey, I've got some good news I want to share with you,'" Prescott said Tuesday. "So I called him back and he was excited. Just a lot of excitement from the both of us." The Cowboys entered the offseason after the end of a three-year playoff run knowing they lacked a proven No. 2 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb. Then they skipped the position altogether in the draft. In their mind, they still don't have a No. 2 receiver. Dallas thinks it has two No. 1s after giving the Pittsburgh Steelers a third-round pick in next year's draft while the teams swapped late-round 2027 choices in the deal announced May 7. "I think CeeDee said it best," first-year coach Brian Schottenheimer said. "I saw his comments where we don't have a one, we don't do A's and B's, we think that there's a one over there. If you look over there, there's a one there. So I think that's the way that we view (Pickens)." Prescott, Lamb and Pickens are on the field together for the first time this week in organized team activities. "We can complement each other," Lamb said of Pickens. "Just being his backbone and being here for him and letting him know that he has some help on the other side that's a dog and that's willing to win. I'm going to do everything in my power to do that." Going into his 10th season, Prescott potentially has the most dangerous second option at receiver since Amari Cooper was traded three years ago, back when Lamb was considered the No. 2 guy. After finishing second in MVP voting in 2023, Prescott missed the final nine games last season with a torn hamstring. Now he has plenty of reasons to feel confident about a reset coming off just the second losing season for Dallas since he became the starter. "Looking at the guy's tape, you see what he does, the kind of receiver he is, he's going to win on one on ones," Prescott said of Pickens. "He can win two vs. one if he has to. Very, very talented guy. When you can add him alongside a CeeDee and the rest of the weapons we have, I'm super excited." Pickens left behind questions in Pittsburgh, where the 2022 second-round pick showed he could be a dynamic playmaker but struggled to keep his emotions in check. Lamb has had a few sideline moments himself, usually when frustrated that he wasn't getting the ball enough. "Obviously just watching him with the Steelers and how passionate he is about the game, I think they kind of get it confused when you're so passionate about something, you're willing to do anything for it," Lamb said. "As far as winning goes, just being happy in an organization. Not saying that he wasn't, not saying that he was, you never know. He hasn't stopped smiling since he got here, so I'll start with that." Pickens now has had a chance to show people from the outside that smile after dealing withmost of the questions about his three-year Pittsburgh tenureby phone. "I'd probably say staying humble," Pickens said when asked about a chance for a fresh start. "That's kinda what I always did even when the story was what the story was. I always kept working and staying humble." Lamb will go through a full offseason and training camp with Pickens after missing everything in a contract holdout last year. He played through a painful shoulder injury most of last season and experienced for the first time a season in which his catches, yards and touchdowns weren't higher than the previous year. Of course, it would have been difficult to match his first All-Pro season in 2023, when Lamb led the NFL with 135 catches and had 1,749 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns.
